First of a four-part series about fossils. From the Leicestershire quarries where, as a boy his interest in fossils began, David Attenborough travels the world to unravel some of the wonders and puzzles of palaeontology: 30 million year-old insects embedded in ancient resin, forests of colourful quartz, coal balls from vanished primeval swamps. The use of acid baths and modern X-ray techniques to help reveal details of fossil specimens is also considered.
