The Woman in Black (1989)

Film details

Period TV film based on the novel by Susan Hill. Mid-1920s Britain. A young solicitor is sent from London to attend the funeral of the late Mrs Drablow, and to sort through her papers in her home, Eel Marsh House, which stands on a small island surrounded by marshes and linked to the mainland by a causeway. There he has disquieting supernatural experiences, hearing the sounds of childrens' voices and of a terrible accident that happened there years previously when a carriage overturned from the causeway; also, catching glimpses of the figure of a woman dressed in black. He uncovers a link between Mrs Drablow and the ghostly woman in black, and he learns that the villagers view her as a malevolent harbinger of infant fatality.
