TV Film about the black S. African civil rights leader Nelson Mandela, who has been in prison for his beliefs for over 25 years. (Made before his release.) This is a dramatisation of the lives of Nelson and Winnie Mandela and the love between them, drawn from the bond between two people who are impriosoned for their beliefs. It is 1952 when Nelson arrives in Johannesburg and establishes the first black legal practice in the central `white' area. His courtship with Winnie is disrupted by the horror of Sharpville and his arrest. On bail, he goes underground. Passive resistance fails, so a policy of sabotage begins...
