An experimental dance film. 'Twenty-four dancers at twenty-four frames per second enclosed in a three dimensional film screen produce a cubist/structuralist film that challenges the proscenium arch with filmic sensibility. Momentum gathers, the dancers familiarize each other, passing the filming camera between them. As the number of dancers within the frame diminishes, so the speed of the editing proportionately increases. With 24 dancers the film cuts every second, with 12 dancers every half-second, 6 dancers every quarter second (6 frames), 3 dancers every eighth of a second (3 frames) until we see one lone, naked male dancer presented at one frame every 24th of a second, circumscribed by the four cameras filming him. As the dancers are subtracted, subjected to the mathematics of seeing and filming so are their minimal white costumes decreased along with the size of the screen/set, always remaining in the ratio of the film screen. The aspect ratio of 4:3 or 1.375:1 the Academy ratio, defined by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Translated to dance form, the claustrophobia of the film frame is expressed and gesticulated and beneath that the sense of entrapment of cinema – the world it films and the viewer on which its meaning is extrapolated.

A three dimensional set was constructed at the Rambert studios, including a glass floor so that we might film from below as well as above and side to side. Four 16mm cameras covered all the action from these dimensions, enabling fully surround filming. The soundtrack was composed by Gavin Bryars using the guitar fretboard and layering take on take to reflect the structured composition of the film image.' - Clive Myer.
