The illegitimate daughter of Louis Napoleon is forced into marriage as a spy for Napoleon among the aristocracy. Her lover meanwhile has been sent into exile for associating with those plotting to kill the Emperor, and works to unmask a group of spies based in Switzerland in order to rehabilitate himself.
