Synopsis
Loosely adapted from a novel by Georges Sand set in 18th century France. Tristan and Hubert Mauprat are brothers with very different characters, one good and upright, the other bad. Tristan's son Bernard falls in love with his cousin Edmée, daughter of Hubert, when she wanders into his family chateau and is held there. Bernard helps her to escape and she promises her love and hand in marriage. When Edmée is shot during a hunting party Bernard is accused as it was his gun. However, it turns out that Tristan did the deed, and Bernard and Edmée reveal their love for each other.
