Ivanhoe (1982)

Film details

The Saxon knight Ivanhoe returns to England from the Crusades, accompanied secretly by King Richard. Prince John is on the throne, and Ivanhoe saves the Jewish Isaac of York from ambush by three Norman lords. In return, Isaac provides money for equipment and a horse for Ivanhoe so that he can take part in a large tournament. At the tournament the disguised Ivanhoe successfully beats the three Norman lords and wins. Ivanhoe's father is estranged from his son because of the latter's allegiance to the Norman King Richard. He dreams of a Saxon revival and wishes to marry his ward the Lady Rowena to the ineffectual and drunken Athelstane - she and Ivanhoe are in love however. Ivanhoe has to rescue her from the attentions of De Bracy and also Rebecca, Isaac's daughter, from the attentions of Brian de Bois-Guilbert, a Knight's Templar, whose love for her threatens her life when she is accused of witchcraft.
