Released from jail, Franz (Baer) seeks comfort from two different women but is happiest with his friend ‘Gorilla’ (Kaufmann), with whom he plans a supermarket robbery. Fassbinder captures the late 60s Zeitgeist – its uneasy blend of bohemian dreams, bourgeois aspirations and Third Reich nostalgia.
