The Divine Spark (1935)

Film details

Tells of the youth of Sicilian composer Vincenzo Bellini: his time spent at the Conservatorio di Napoli, his love for Maddalena Fumaroli, his early successes and his relationship with soprano Giuditta Pasta. When his opera Norma is released, it is a complete disaster, but Giuditta Pasta persuades him to include the melody of the love song he wrote for her. The song becomes the famous aria Casta diva and the opera is a huge success. However, in the meantime she falls ill and dies.
