Synopsis
The second instalment of the `Apu trilogy', based on a novel by Bibhutibhushan Banerjee. After the devastation of a family tragedy, Apu and his parents move to the bustling city of Benares to build a new life. When Apu's father dies, he decides to pursue his education in Calcutta, but his hunger for new experiences and growing independence inevitably distances him from his lonely widowed mother.
