Football star Bucky O'Neill is taken on by sports promoter Jim Hurley, who can use Bucky's popularity and well-known name to boost his failing promotions and carnivals. Bucky needs some extra money as he plans to marry Joan. Hurley fixes the wrestling bouts so that Bucky wins, although the latter does not know this and honestly believes he can wrestle. Hurley arranges a match with world champion Ivan Stanislaus, intending him to let Bucky win, but on overhearing his mistress Lola making a pass at Bucky and believing him to be interested in her, he tells Ivan to fight for real. After being beaten, Bucky realises what has been going on and intends to quit, but is disuaded by Joan and his trainer Leo. He trains with Leo for a year until he does become a good wrestler. Pretending to be The Masked Marvel, he beats Stanislaus in a fair wrestling match.
