Under the influence of petty crook Frank Wilson, young Johnnie Stone gets mixed up in stealing a car, robbing a gas station and finally robbing a pawnbrokers, during which Frank shoots the pawnbroker with a gun Johnnie has stolen from Fred Burke, fiance of his sister. Frank and Johnnie are arrested and sentenced for the gas station robbery, but Fred is accused of the pawnbroker's murder and sentenced to death. Frank threatens Johnnie into silence and to make sure he doesn't speak out shoots him during an attempted breakout. However, in a dying confession Johnnie clears Fred and names Frank as the real culprit.
