What Would You Do Chums? (1939)

Film details

Syd Walker visits his pal Harry Piper in hospital where the latter voices his concern over his daughter and her relationship with a young man. Walker tells Piper a story that had occurred to him a few years earlier. A street trader in London, Walker lived in lodgings next to a young girl called Lucy who falls for the new tenant, Mike Collins. Counterfeit notes are being distributed in the area and Syd suspects that Collins is involved, becoming increasingly concerned when Lucy and Collins become engaged. When Collins is put on trial for his part in a warehouse robbery, Syd appears in court to disprove Collins's alibi. As a result Collins is convicted, and Syd relates how Lucy moved away from the area and he never saw her again. When leaving the hospital Syd bumps into Lucy, who is now a nurse, and she promises to come and visit him in London.
