Adventure story set in 17th century France, with the young Gascon, d'Artagnan, attempting to join the Musketeers, while thwarting a plot by Cardinal Richelieu to cause a rift between the King and his Queen.

The following statement regarding the story appears after the opening credits: 'In the year of Our Lord 1625, William Shakespeare was not long dead, America not long settled, and the calm of France not long for this world. A Gascon villager was preparing to go forth and shake that world till its teeth rattled.'
