Andrew MacDhui, a Scottish country vet, is losing his clientèle to a mysterious young healer, Lori whose gift contrasts with his own mistrust of animals, His motherless daughter lavishes her affection on Thomasina, her cat, whom he has to put down after an injury. Mary vows never to speak to her father again and holds a public funeral. Lori appears, frightens the children away and finds the cat alive. She tends it but it obviously has lost its memory. When Andrew goes to see Lori a mutual attraction starts. One night Mary wakes to see Thomasina at her window and pursues her in a thunderstorm. She contracts pneumonia and it is Lori who brings Thomasina, effecting a cure for both. Thomasina's third life begins and Andrew and Lori are married.
