Social drama set against the background of the caste system and Gandhian principles in India. Sujata has been adopted by an upper caste Brahmin family and unaware that she is from the untouchable caste. This becomes an issue when a young man who is visiting the family with a view to marrying Rama, the other daughter in the family, falls in love with Sujata instead and wants to marry her. Based on a Bengali novel by Subodh Ghosh.
