San Quentin (1937)

Film details

Convict Joe Kennedy, imprisoned in San Quentin, is put on a road gang as part of Captain Jameson's rehabilitation programme. However, he is joined by Hansen, a hardened criminal, who is assigned to the gang to cause trouble by a warder resentful of Jameson's attempts to introduce more humane methods and programmes. Hansen needles Joe with insinuations about Jameson and Joe's sister May, and the two escape together. Joe goes to May's where he also finds Jameson, but May reveals that they are genuinely in love. Joe attempts to give himself up, but is shot.
