Simon, black sheep son of a wealthy industrialist, in the absence of his family becomes involved with a French girl, Yvonne. They are discovered together in a Brighton hotel by Robbins, who professes to be hired by Yvonne's husband. Simon is blackmailed for £5,000. To raise the money he has to sell his holding in the family firm. Robbins demands in stant payment and in a scene at his home is shot. Simon is tried for murder. Yvonne's evidence reveals that she was in the blackmail conspiracy and that Simon shot Robbins in self defence. He is acquitted.
