Introduction
Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger followed up the successful propaganda features 49th Parallel (1941) and Contraband (1940) with this adventure thriller, which traces the journey of a bomber crew trapped in Nazi-controlled Holland. Their escape is made possible by the underground people’s network run mainly by women. Hugh Withers is in particularly good form as the resistance leader who controls their destiny.
