The Old Dark House (1966)

Film details

Comedy horror. Tom Penderel, an American car salesman based in London, is persuaded by his acquaintance Casper Femm to drive a newly sold car down to the Femm family home in Dartmoor. Casper fears he is in danger, and by the time Tom arrives, in torrential rain, Casper is indeed dead. Tom meets the eccentric family: pompous father Roderick, knitting-mad mother Agatha, sensible cousin Cecily, man-mad cousin Morgana and unhinged uncle Potiphar (awaiting the world's end with an ark he has built in the grounds), as well as Morgana's father, the silent, violent Morgan. According to the terms of an old family will, all Femms must continue to live at the house (and be home by midnight) or lose their inheritance. Tom's visit is prolonged by a series of mysterious deaths of various family members. As the rainy night draws on, it is clear that a killer is among them, perhaps in a bid to inherit the whole Femm fortune.
