Farcical adventures of disbarred barrister Will Fitch who is being menaced by Arthur Grimshaw, a deranged forger of fiver pound notes, who, newly out of prison, is aiming to kill off everyone associated with his trial, including his defence lawyer, Fitch. As Grimshaw works through his list, seeking his revenge with visits to a rough Stepney pub, a panto in Bootle, a mental hospital and the Houses of Parliament, Fitch team up with well-meaning, well-off, unemployed lawyer Claude Babbingtonin as he attempts to follow a series of clues and stop the killer.
