Synopsis
Period comedy. A penniless American sailor in Edwardian London is given a banknote worth one million pounds as part of a wager to test whether it is possible to live for a month on the reputation of a millionaire without ever having to spend any money. Believing him very wealthy, people treat the sailor with great deference and he is able to avoid breaking into the note for weeks. The situation grows complicated, however, when he falls for a lady who does not care for his wealth, and also when the note goes missing and he is seen as a fraud.
