Synopsis
The marriage of her protector Carmine releases Mamma Roma from a life of reluctant prostitution and re-unites her with her teenage son Ettore who has been brought up in the country. Mamma Roma moves into a new flat and sets herself up as a respectable stallholder in the local market. Ettore, however, joins a gang of young delinquents and his mother attempts to find him a decent job. Carmine reappears and forces Mamma Roma back into prostitution whereupon Ettore leaves his job and goes back into a life of crime. Being jailed for robbery, he is tied to a bed in an isolation ward where his condition deteriorates and he dies.
