Rolfe, elder son of a Viking thane, is shipwrecked during a raid on the Barbary coast. He learns the whereabouts of a legendary bell made of solid gold. Although tortured by El Mansuh, a Moorish prince, he escapes and returns home. Unable to find another ship, he steals a magnificent funeral ship made for the king, Harald, and sails with the princess Gerda as hostage to find the bell. Again the vikings are captured by the Moors and are forced to lead them to the golden bell. King Harald, pursuing Rolfe, captures the Moorish capital and defeats the returning Moors. Rolfe is pardoned.
