The Long Goodbye (1973)

Robert Altman’s masterly adaptation of Raymond Chandler’s novel tells of betrayal, murder and moral codes.
The Long Goodbye centres on Philip Marlowe (Elliott Gould), a private detective whose outmoded code of honour is at odds with the mores of early ’70s LA, so renders him ill-equipped to judge the character and motives of those around him. Director Robert Altman contrasts the vintage architecture of Marlowe’s cosy High Tower Drive apartment with the spacey beach mansions of Malibu in this superb adaptation of Raymond Chandler’s novel.
