Let's Be Famous (1939)

Film details

Musical comedy about adventures a stage-struck Irish shopkeeper, Jimmy, and a North Country girl, Betty, who travel to London to enter a singing contest on BBC radio. Unfortunately for Jimmy, he has in fact been entered in a spelling bee. They get involved with two rival agents, Finch and Blake, who try to sign up the latest singing sensations, and with Betty's mother, formerly a burlesque queen once known as Polly Punch. In the course of some misadventures Jimmy finds himself posing as France's greatest living parachutist. In the end, Jimmy and Finch ruin a live radio broadcast with their drunken comedy antics in the announcer's booth, but this goes down very well with the bosses.
