Synopsis
Drama, based on the novel by H.G. Wells. A shopkeeper's nephew is sent to work as a draper's assistant in Folkestone. When he inherits a fortune and a large house, he is accepted, up to a point, by certain wealthy socialites, and Kipps becomes engaged to his former evening class teacher, Miss Walshingham. She and her friends try to improve Kipps' social skills, his pronunciation and his sense of culture, even going so far as to change the spelling of his surname to the original Flemish Cuyps. Yet his heart remains with a childhood sweetheart, now a maid, who reappears on the scene.
