Isle of the Dead (1945)

Film details

Horror, supernatural. Balkan War, 1912. Nikolas Pherides, a Greek General, visits the island where his wife was buried fifteen years before, accompained by an American newspaperman, Oliver Davis. On arrival at the island, they find the coffin empty and set out in search of the violators. They become guests of an archaeologist whose household is dominated by superstition. Evidence of a plague occurs and Pherides assumes authority in an attempt to keep the disease from his soldiers. All those on the island are forced to remain. Pherides believes that Thea is a vampire whose soul is evil and tries to kill her for the good of the rest of the group. After the hair-rising incident of a woman being entombed and then plunged to death from a cliff and other several gruesome murders, Oliver and Thea, freed from the plague, leave the island of horrors.
