Comedy. A man arriving at the gates of Hell recounts to the devil in charge the story of his life, feeling that he has been sinful enough to warrant damnation. His life, lived in the upper echelons of Old New York, contains episodes involving his youthful relationship with a French maid, his love for his cousin's fiancée (a meat packer's daughter from Kansas), elopement, philandering, separation, reunion, concern about his son's waywardness and finally illness.
