The Ambassador's Boots (1983)

Film details

Mystery. Tommy and Tuppence Beresford, who run Blunt's detective agency, are approached by the US ambassador about the apparently trifling incident of his bag, containing only his boots, having been mistaken for someone else's on board an Atlantic crossing, and duly returned intact. The bags bore the same initials, but he is puzzled because the man whose bag it was switched with claimed never to have known of any switch. The Beresfords find themselves plunged into a web of ruses, clues and deceit involving a cosmetics salon, a lassoo, a suicide, a map, invisible ink, a vanishing passenger on the ship sounding 'too Irish to be true', a Spaniard with a gun, the Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD), a taxi driver who refuses to pick up a fare and an alleged appointment with the Bishop of London.
