Portrait of a Matador (1958)

David Crane, an artist, is in Spain where he meets an attractive Spanish woman and her jealous matador boyfriend. Crane professes a hatred of violent death but agrees to paint a portrait of the matador going in for the kill. The matador is angry when he sees the portrait and promises to get revenge. That night in the bullring the matador is injured and on his deathbed he repeats his curse on the artist. After David returns to England the portrait is sent on to him anonymously and he becomes obsessed with it, yet refuses to unpack it. A doctor, summoned by David's concerned friend, takes the covering off the painting and on the first anniversary of the matador's death, the artist is found collapsed on the floor with a stab wound. The matador's sister, Maria, sneaks into the house to destroy the painting and David's wound mysteriously heals. David asks Maria to marry him.
