Be My Guest (1965)

Film details

Herbert and Margaret Martin, with their teenage son Dave, move from London to Brighton to take over a guest house. On the train down, Dave meets budding American singer and dancer Erica. Having nowhere to stay, Dave persuades his father to let Erica stay at the boarding house for free. When Dave's friends, Ricky and Phil, also turn up, they are also provided with lodgings at the guest house. Dave gets a job on the local newspaper, while Erica tries for a part in a stage show. As part of the show there is to be a competition for best local band. Dave, Ricky and Phil enter themselves but, as the newspaper on which Dave works is sponsoring the competition, their group is ineligible. Dave finds out that the director of the show, together with the star performer, are planning to rig the results so that the group playing a song that they have the rights to will win. But Dave secretly tapes their conversation as evidence and his story makes headlines in the newspaper, while the show's promoter gives Erica the star role.

The songs performed in the film are as follows:

The Niteshades, 'Be My Guest' The Nashville Teens, 'Watcha Gonna Do' Kenny and the Wranglers (playing group called Rocky Steel and the Sparks), 'Somebody Help Me' Joyce Blair, 'Gotta Get Away Now' The Zephyrs (playing group called Slash Wildly and the Cut Throats), 'She Laughed' Jerry Lee Lewis, backed by The Plebs, 'No One But Me'
