Synopsis
Murder thriller. Broadway producer Peter Denver lives in a plush apartment with his wife Iris. Broadway star Lottie Marin and her lesser-known actor husband Brian live on the top floor of the same building. When Iris goes to visit her mother, Peter goes to a party and strikes up a friendship with an attractive and ambitious young writer, Nancy Ordway. He takes her under his wing, mentoring her somewhat, and he allows her to write in his apartment during the day while he's out. Nancy becomes needy, sending Peter notes implying that she desperately wants to see him. One note he gets even suggests she might kill herself if he does not speak to her soon. So when Nancy is found hanged in the Denver apartment's bedroom, the death is treated initially as a suicide. Yet soon Peter is suspected of having had an affair with her that ended in murder. As evidence stacks up against him, he goes on the run from the police in a bid, he claims, to prove his innocence. He soon learns that various people have secrets to hide and the truth behind Nancy's death is more complicated than it first appeared.
