Shirley Freeman starts her beauty competition career when Don Mackenzie, reporter on a western paper, spots her on holiday. She wins the local competition but her family disapprove of the newspaper photograph. Under Don's supervision she is groomed for more competition, finally winning the Miss Rose of England contest and a weekend for two in Monte Carlo. Whilst there she wins a nightmare competition in a circus ring judged by Rex Carrick, a famous film star. Their flirtation rouses Don who is now in love with Shirley but she is interested only in fame. At the Miss Globe contest she is narrowly beaten. Carrick advises her to quit and she returns, disillusioned, to England. Months later when judging another contest she sees her younger sister amongst the contestants and flees in panic before this reflection of herself.
