The Bargee (1964)

Film details

DRAMA. Hemel, a canal bargee born and bred, has a girl in every lock. He works a pair of narrow boats with his cousin, Ronnie who is useful in his escapades. On a trip to Birmingham his first date is with Nellie who chases him off. Christine, the next, is zealously guarded by her father, Joe. Ronnie lures him to a pub so that Hemel can meet Christine. Joe learns that she is pregnant and, enraged, he mines the lock gates until the culprit is found. Hemel confesses and manfully tries jobs on shore when Christine refuses to live on the water. Finally, Christine and Joe, safe in the knowledge of impending changes by British Waterways, give him back his narrow boats.
