Despite all the high-tech remakes, Schoedsack and Cooper’s original still impresses for its technical effects, though its real strength lies in the story (by Edgar Wallace) and script, culminating in one of cinema’s all-time classic last lines: ‘It wasn’t the airplanes. It was beauty killed the beast.’
