Each year from late September until early December, a cohort of selected participants aged 16 to 19 are trained by industry and education professionals to produce short films. Here at the BFI, we deliver one of the 45 nationwide Network Academies and our intensive programme includes hands-on filmmaking workshops, masterclasses with filmmakers, plus access to screenings at the BFI London Film Festival and regular BFI Film Academy talks and events.
Our participants will work in small teams to produce short films inspired by the current BFI Autumn Season. In the past, these themes have included; Gothic Horror, Sci-Fi, Love, Comedy, Thriller, Black Star and Musicals. You can see some of the films we have produced on our Vimeo channel.
Participants are actively involved in the exhibition and distribution of their work and also have the opportunity to gain the NCFE Preparing to Work in the Film Industry’ accreditation. This is achieved by creating a blog, documenting your learning with us.
In the midst of these challenging times, we will endeavour to provide socially distanced activities, especially at key times in the programme where group work is essential and where this isn’t possible, ensure that you can still engage in hands-on filmmaking from home and learn about online tools to create and collaborate remotely.
Most sessions will run on Wednesday evenings between 6-8pm, occasional weekends and throughout half term, 26-30 October 2020. Please see our timetable via the link below to check the precise session times and dates.
