BFI Film Academy FAQ

Can I speak to someone about funding for this project?

Please make sure to read the appropriate Film Academy Guidelines for Applicants first, as these may answer any questions you have. Should you need further information, you can use the contact form to make your enquiry. There will also be an information day at BFI Southbank for interested applicants for both programme strands on 5 October 2012. Please note that there are separate Guidelines for the Regional Courses and the residential Talent Campus.

Can I discuss my project with someone before I’ve made an application?

Unfortunately we are not able to discuss projects in detail. In the first instance we recommend that you read the Guidelines, the additional information in the Appendices and these FAQs. If, after that, you still have any questions please use the Contact Form (on the website) and we will contact you be email of by phone at a time and a date to suit you. We are likely to add your question to these FAQs.

What information do I need to include in application?

Please refer to the Guidelines for Applicants for advice on completing the application form.

How do I check the status of my current application?

When we have received your submission, we will send you a confirmation email. We aim to let successful applicants for the Regional courses know by 20 November and the Residential by 10 December. During this period of time, we may ask for additional materials to support your application.

Should VAT be included in the budget for the business plans?

VAT is not payable on awards.

How soon would the project need to start?

For this initial phase, we expect regional delivery courses to begin in January 2013 with delivery by end March 2013. For the residential Talent Campus, we expect planning to begin in January 2013 with the programme delivered in March 2013.

Will you award the full amount requested?

The amount you ask for should be the amount you need to deliver the either programme as per the guidelines. Applications will be assessed and a detailed budget should be submitted by the applicant. The final actual amount awarded will be based on that assessment.

We are looking to charge for some elements of activity. Is this allowed?

Yes that is allowed. However we expect that you will endeavour to remove barriers to participation wherever possible.

Would you consider an application for more than one region?

Yes an applicant may apply to be the delivery partner in one or more region as well as the Talent Campus.

Do the courses need to be delivered between January and March 2013?

Yes, courses must be delivered in that period as per the conditions of the funding with the Department for Education. There will be another call for applications the following year for the regional courses and residential Talent Campus.

What do you mean by ‘Commitment to Diversity’?

All applicants must demonstrate their commitment to diversity both in terms of valuing diverse employees, clients or customers by having policies and procedures that take their diverse needs and preferences into account, and demonstrating their commitment to promoting diversity.
